About Trinity College Dublin

Trinity College Dublin was founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I as the first college of the University of Dublin. It was intended to be a collegiate university like the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, but Trinity College was the only college created and so the University of Dublin is its degree-awarding body and the two names are usually interchangeable. It is one of the seven ancient universities of Great Britain and Ireland and is the oldest surviving Irish university. Today it hosts around 20,000 students including international students from more than 122 countries. Trinity College Dublin is ranked 1st in Ireland and 98th in the world and also ranks in the top 100 in 19 subjects, globally. It also ranks as the 12th most international university in the world in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022. Iconic Campus The campus at Trinity College Dublin has been featured in films like Michael Collins and Educating Rita as well as TV shows like Normal People. It’s also home to the beautiful Library of Trinity College Dublin, home to around 7 million printed volumes. The library receives half a million visitors a year and contains historic items like a 15th century wooden harp that’s the basis for the emblem of Ireland. From arts, culture, politics and debating to gaming, advocacy and music, Trinity College Dublin is home to 120 societies. There are also 50 sports clubs to choose from, so whatever you are into, you can find your tribe here.
