About the University The University of Wolverhampton dates back to the Wolverhampton Tradesmen’s and Mechanics’ Institute which was founded in 1827. In 1969 a merger with the Municipal School of Art created Wolverhampton Polytechnic and it gained university status in 1992. Its main campus is in the centre of Wolverhampton with additional campuses in Walsall and Telford.It has over 21,000 students including around 2,500 international students from more than 130 nations.
