About University of Leeds

The University of Leeds started out as the Yorkshire College of Science in 1874 before becoming part of Victoria University in 1887. In 1904 a royal charter was given by King Edward VII to create it as a university in its own right. Today it has over 39,000 students including more than 13,400 international students from 137 countries.It is part of the Russell Group of universities and has been awarded the Queen’s Anniversary prize in 2009, 2011 and 2021. The university is ranked in the top 100 global universities by the QS World University Rankings 2023. It’s also in the top 20 in the UK by the Complete University Guide, The Guardian and The Times/Sunday Times lists.
