University College Cork was founded in 1845 as one of three Queen’s Colleges across Ireland - the other two were in Belfast and Galway. In 1908 it became University College, Cork before losing the comma 90 years later. Today it hosts around 20,000 students with more than 3,000 of them international students from over 104 countries.It has been named as the "Irish University of the Year" by the Sunday Times in 2003, 2005, 2011 and 2016.
