About University College Cork

University College Cork was founded in 1845 as one of three Queen’s Colleges across Ireland - the other two were in Belfast and Galway. In 1908 it became University College, Cork before losing the comma 90 years later. Today it hosts around 20,000 students with more than 3,000 of them international students from over 104 countries.It has been named as the "Irish University of the Year" by the Sunday Times in 2003, 2005, 2011 and 2016. It ranked just outside the top 300 global universities in the QS World University Ranking and inside the top 300 in the Times Higher Education World University Ranking. Student Life The university has a new Student Hub that really is the hub of student life in Cork, located right next to its famous Quad. An international survey conducted by International Graduate Insight Group ranked University College Cork 1st in Ireland for its sporting facilities. It has the Mardyke Arena which offers a pool, basketball court, climbing wall and more and there are 59 sports clubs at the university. University College Cork has been voted both the safest campus in Ireland and one of the safest in the world. According to an international survey conducted by studyportals.com and the International Graduate Insight Group, it also received an ‘Excellent International Student Satisfaction Award.
