Course Overview
Course Overview This course provides a critical examination of how social categories like race, ethnicity, and gender are constructed and how they shape human experience. Through a multidisciplinary lens, we analyze systems of power, inequality, and the history of social justice movements. The program prioritizes the voices of marginalized communities to both deconstruct and affirm the meaning of "ethnic" in a global context. Key Program Highlights Analyze the construction of race, gender, and citizenship across historical and geographic contexts. Explore the connections between colonialism, capitalism, and the formation of social identities. Critically examine systems of power and the impact of past and present social justice movements. Engage with a diverse range of sources, from literature and music to historical and sociological texts. Center the perspectives and voices of marginalized and minoritized communities.
